- AARP is an interest group in the United States focusing on issues affecting those over the age of fifty.
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid is a federal agency within the US Department of Health & Human Services. CMS runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs – two national health care programs that benefit about 75 million Americans. Southern Maine Agency on Agency provides everything you need to know about Medicare and Health Insurance counseling.
- National Council on Aging is the nation’s first association of organizations and professionals dedicated to promoting the dignity, self-determination, wellbeing, and contributions of older persons.
- Administration on Aging is the principal agency of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services designated to carry out the provisions of the Older Americans Act (OAA) of 1965. The OAA promotes the well-being of older individuals by providing services and programs designed to help them live independently in their homes and communities. The Act also empowers the federal government to distribute funds to the states for supportive services for individuals over the age of 60.

- Maine Council on Aging is a broad, membership-based network of over 60 organizations and businesses working to promote the safety, independence and well-being of all older adults in Maine, especially those who are most vulnerable.
- State of Maine Department of Health & Human Services oversees programs and services that help older adults and their care partners maintain overall well-being. Programs & Services include Food & Nutrition, SHIP & Medicare Assistance, Legal Assistance, Managing Health, Assistive Technology and Senior Community Service Employment Program.
- Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) supports caregivers as they explore options and plan for care needs, connect with available resources and learn how to be care for themselves.
- Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) provides Adult Day Centers in Biddeford and Springvale for older adults living with dementia, providing person-centered care while encouraging socialization, brain-stimulating activities and maximum independence.
- AARP provides a number of educational articles to help caregivers provide for loved ones suffering from a variety of illnesses.
- UNE/AgingME Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP): Teaches individuals what matters most when caring for older adults.
- Family Caregiver Alliance: The mission of Family Caregiver Alliance is to improve the quality of the life for family caregivers and the people who receive their care. Includes information on managing Alzheimer’s, tax issues, work and eldercare, an online support group and much more.

- Kennebunk Cares Closet fills orders via email requests to Kennebunkcarescloset@yahoo.com. OPEN TO ALL. Provide age, gender, sizes and needed items, i.e., pants, shoes, shirts etc. They will do their best to fill orders with what they have in stock. Orders must be picked up at a determined time in the Kennebunk area by family.

- AARP offers free tax preparation through AARP Tax-Aide in many locations in Maine. Administered through AARP and jointly sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), this program provides free, quality assistance in filing taxes.

- Alzheimer’s Association provides caregiver resources, chapter locations, and treatment and research information.

- Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) hosts Agewell programs and screening events to help older adults maintain healthy, active lifestyles free from falls and related injuries and improve overall wellness. Offerings include Taichi, A Matter of Balance, Gentle Yoga and more.

- York County Food Pantries located at 5 Swetts Bridge Road in Alfred. The pantry feeds about 6,000 people every month. They also have a Pet Food pantry, providing cat food, dog food, cat litter and various pet supplies. 207-324-5762
- Matthew 25:35 Meal: Free hot meals are service at the St. Thomas School at 69 North Ave in Sanford on the second Tuesday of each month. All are welcome to attend starting at 6p. For more information, please call the Saint Thérèse Parish Office at 207-324-2420.
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides a monthly benefit to help low-income households purchase nutritious food.
- Maine Harvest Bucks gives Bonus Bucks to buy fresh fruits and vegetables when you spend your SNAP/EBT dollars on local food. Locations in Alfred, Kennebunk, Sanford, Springvale & E. Waterboro and Biddeford.
- Maine Senior FarmShare provides income-eligible older adults the opportunity to receive share (worth $50) of local produce at no cost from Maine farmers during the growing season. 207-287-3491

- Efficiency Maine provides guides and calculators to improve your energy efficiency. Their electricity monitors may be borrowed from local libraries. Offers rebates for upgrades such as major appliances and heating systems that are energy efficient. 866-376-2463
- Maine State Housing Authority – Energy Programs & Assistance: The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps qualified homeowners and renters pay for heating costs. Benefits include help paying for fuel and emergency fuel delivery. You can also qualify for energy-related repairs if you are eligible for HEAP. 877-544-3271
- WindowDressers is a nonprofit organization that produces low-cost insulating window inserts that function as custom, interior-mounted storm windows to improve the warmth and comfort of interior spaces, lower heating costs, and reduce carbon dioxide pollution. Their process is a little different, in that it requires volunteering in a local WindowDressers Community Build where your inserts are made.

- AlphaOne: Disability and Aging Solutions can connect individuals to funding sources that can be used to purchase adaptive equipment, assistive technology or to make home modifications. 1-800-640-7200
- USDA Rural Development: Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their homes, or provides grants to elderly, very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards. Maine Office: 207-990-9160

- Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program provides advocacy services while maintaining strict confidence. Anyone reporting concerns about long-term care services can be assured that all communication with staff and volunteers will not be disclosed, investigated or resolved without consent. - Acentra Health (formerly Kepro) helps people on Medicare to file quality of care complaints and service termination appeals.
- Pine Tree Legal believes in fairness and justice for all. They provide free civil legal aid in Maine. They do not help with criminal, personal injury, or traffic violation cases. 207-774-8211
MEDICATIONS & MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
It is always best to tell your doctor if you can’t afford your medicines. There are many sources of free or low-cost prescription drugs, but eligibility often depends on your medication needs, financial status, etc. A cheaper drug might be prescribed, or help to obtain affordable medication might be offered by the practice itself or by referral to the prescription-assistance or medication-access program of a local hospital.
- Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) is the first stop for Mainers approaching age 65 for everything they need to know about enrolling in Medicare and Health Insurance Counseling.

- No Place Like Home Kennebunk: Medical Equipment is loaned at no cost to help seniors age in place. Equipment is available on a first come, first served basis. Located at 1 Alewive Park Road, Kennebunk. Call 207-558-2270 to inquire about medical equipment loans and hours of operation.
- Generations United is the only national membership organization focused solely on promoting intergenerational strategies, programs and public policies. This may be especially helpful for grandparents caring for grandchildren, an increasingly common situation. 202-289-3979
No Bowl Empty offers temporary assistance to help individuals and families in need to feed their pets. DOES NOT provide assistance to anyone breeding, selling or flipping animals. Clients are required to show proof that all dogs in their care are properly licensed. Clients cannot take in any additional animals while receiving assistance, all food/supplies are donated so brands/specifics are not consistent or by request, must agree not to resell. No Bowl Empty will provide assistance for 6 months, at the end of 6 months it is requested that the client takes a break for 3 months. Pittie Posse Rescue’s Pet Pantry Pittie Posse Rescue’s Pet Pantry is a pet food pantry offering dog and cat food, treats, toys, cat litter and puppy pads free for those in need in Southern Maine. Contact by email at pittieposse@gmail.com.
York Country Shelter Programs Pet Food Pantry distributes pet food and supplies on the first Tuesday and third Friday of every month, from 12 PM to 2 PM – or until we run out. Animal Welfare Society is located in West Kennebunk at 46 Holland Rd. Kennebunk, 207-985-3244 provides animal shelter, veterinary care, dog training classes. Extensive resource page for low cost spay/neuter, vaccines, etc.

- Southern Maine on the Cheap: Provides information on where Seniors can get discounts in Maine.
- AAA membership allows you to find hotel deals and other travel discounts.
- AARP offers discounts to members. Shopping on certain days or asking for a price break can save you money.
- Spectrum Internet offers affordable Internet with Spectrum Internet Assist, available to qualified households.
- Town of Lyman Events are posted on the Lyman Parks & Recreation Facebook page.
- Lyman Community Library hosts a variety of clubs and community events. Check out the weekly Adult Book Club, Fiber Arts Club or Cribbage Club. To Go Service is available when you want a book but have no time to come in and find it. - MaineHealth offers a variety of support groups dealing with Cancer, Alzheimer’s or related disorders, eating disorders, loss & recovery. 877-336-7287
- Dempsey Center offers several support groups for cancer patients, care partners and loved ones. All are offered at no cost, both in-person and virtually. South Portland location: 1-877-336-7287
- The Chronic Pain Support Group of Southern Maine is a support group for people with chronic pain in the Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard Beach area.
- National Digital Equity Center advocates for digital inclusion, such as affordable Broadband, Equipment, Digital Literacy and Public Computer Access. NDEC provides Digital Literacy Classes for professional growth, personal enrichment and the development of computer skills in a supportive environment. Whether it’s an online or in-person class, they provide all instruction in a small group interactive learning setting.
- York County Community Action offers a variety of transportation services that can take you to work, school, shopping and medical appointments. Some services require advanced reservations. If you have MaineCare, contact ModivCare at 877-659-1302.
- Lifelong Maine provides information about local volunteer transportation programs via map-based and searchable lists of programs.
- Maine Council on Aging lists a number of agencies that may provide transportation services throughout York County.
