Tax Collector & Motor Vehicle Agent Information

The mil rate for the 2024 tax year will be $12.19 per thousand.

The due dates for the 2024 tax year will be Oct. 3, 2023 will be due April 3, 2024.

The tax year runs from July 1st through June 30th each year -the first installment pays July 1st through December 31st and the second installment pays January 1st through June 30th.

FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, we have a mail slot at the front door if you want to drop off tax payments – checks or money orders only – NOT CASH – (located just to the left of the door). Please, NEVER leave tax payments in the out-going mailbox out front.

We now accept payment by Credit/Debit cards, Cash, & Checks. You will be charged a minimum $1.50 transaction fee for charges up to $56.00 and 2.65% fee upwards of that amount. Your debit card will be used as credit.

For vehicle registrations, please have a valid insurance card and the mileage ready at the time of processing.

If you purchase a new or used car from a dealership, you will need to provide a copy of the Title Application.

If you purchase a used vehicle via private sale, you will need to provide a Bill of Sale and Title (all 1995 or newer vehicles) completed by the previous owner(s) signed by the seller(s), and purchaser(s).

A fee of $1.00 will be charged if you wish to have your insurance card faxed here.

Vehicles can be re-registered online at www.sosonline.org.  Rapid Renewal accepts payments by Debit/Credit Cards and Electronic Check.

We will register your Boats, ATV’s, and Snowmobiles here at the office and process Hunting & Fishing Licenses. These may also be done online at www.maine.gov/ifw and click Online Services. You can pay by debit or credit cards for IFW services.

Notary Public
We can notarize documents during regular business hours.  However, we do not perform marriages here at the town office.  For wills, you will need to bring two witnesses.  Thank you.


Property Tax Fairness Credit Program

The Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund Program has been repealed and replaced by a refundable Property Tax Fairness Credit that can be claimed on the Maine Individual Income Tax Form.

If you don’t file State of Maine Income Tax form, please call 207-626-8475 for assistance.

Qualified Maine residents can get as much as $1000 ($2000 if 65 years of age or older). The forms can be downloaded from the Maine Revenue Services web site at www.maine.gov/revenue/forms or by calling 207-624-7894 to request that a form be mailed.

Applicants can get assistance in completing the Property Tax Fairness Credit worksheet from the Maine Revenue Services. For help, please call 207-626-8475 weekdays 8:00am to 4:30pm or visit the Maine Revenue Services at 51 Commerce Drive, Augusta, ME 04330. Closed on State recognized holidays.
